However, the Captivate 2012 trailer has revealed that the release date has been put forward; the game was finally released on October 2, 2012, worldwide, and on October 4 in Japan. As of October 4, 2012, the game has shipped 4.5 million copies worldwide with the title reaching 676,585 sales in Japan in its first week (surpassing Resident Evil 5's first week sales of 398,747).The game takes place over a period of at least six months from December 2012 to June 2013, over fifteen years after the US Government's destruction of Raccoon City and takes place in various places around the world.
